Keserouan is the district north of Beirut where the sea and the mountains meet within an hour: a bay with a cable car, a famous grotto, and mountain villages with snow in winter. It is our biggest area outside Batroun, with 20 stays to choose from.
Where to stay
Our Keserouan stays are mostly chalets and guesthouses, plus an apartment and a couple of retreats. Pick by the weekend you want, then explore from there.
Jounieh is a coastal city about 16 km north of Beirut, according to Wikipedia. A gondola lift runs from Jounieh up to the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, with views of the bay and the coast all the way to Beirut.
Jounieh has been the capital of the Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate since 2017.
Bkerke, the seat of the Maronite Patriarch, overlooks the bay from a hill above the town.

Jounieh also has an old stone souk and the Lebanese Heritage Museum, which displays objects from Lebanese culture and history.
What to do: the bay and the evenings
Paragliding over Jounieh bay has been counted among the best outdoor activities in Lebanon since 1992, says Wikipedia. The Casino du Liban is in the north of the city, with gaming and shows.
The Jounieh International Festival is held every summer and has hosted international acts such as Mika and Imagine Dragons. Check the programme before you plan around a date.
Up in the mountains
Keserouan reaches up to the Mzaar slopes, whose peaks run from 1,913 to 2,465 metres, according to Wikipedia. Read our guides to Faraya and Faqra for the snow, the hikes and the Roman ruins of Qalaat Faqra, which sit in Kfardebian, in this same district, at about 1,500 metres. The site holds Roman and Byzantine remains on the slopes of Mount Sannine.

The Jeita Grotto, with a guided boat trip through the lower cave and a walkway through the upper cave, is 18 km north of Beirut and on the way up.
When to go
Come in summer for the bay and the festival, and in winter for the slopes and the snow. Keserouan works all year, because the coast and the mountains are less than an hour apart.
How to get there
Jounieh is about 16 km from Beirut. The villages higher up are further, and mountain roads are slower than the distance suggests, so leave early on Fridays.
